The '70 Cuda I bought needs to have the m/c topped off. I don't have clue of what's in there now. What SHOULD be in there? Dot 3 or Dot 4? Is there anyway of determining what is in the m/c right now? I know Dot 5 is purple, so that's out. Thanks in advance, Moparters

Yep, I looked into it pretty deeply several years ago. What finally clinched it for me after running down all the rabbit holes is DOT 3 is still factory fill on new cars.

Were I in your shoes buy enough DOT 3, or 4 or 5, pick one, and flush the system out, no telling how long it's been in there. Even 45 years ago when I was still a mechanic I'd come across some pretty muddy stuff. 2¢

DOT 3 will be adequate for most.

DOT 4 steps up the boiling point.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Those cars look great. Why not do it right and flush the whole thing out and put DOT 5 in there. Have some friends over and have a winter party bleeding brakes. Gosh knows, at least up here in Minnesota we could all use a" car doing something" fix this time of the year.

Agree: the ALL PLASTIC ones are really bad.
Look for the earlier of metal/brass.

Mine is metal, only way i thought thet came. Thought the knock offs were plastic.
Guess it is a case of don't make them like they used to.

I have one of the brass ones, it still sux for brake bleeding compared to a pressure bleeder.

Why of course; 2 entirely different bleeding methods.

I always have used a one man bleeding kit and have never had an issue. It’s way more fun with a helper, but it’s always gotten the job done. They are cheap as can be. I always see people posting about problems bleeding brakes and have all kinds of fancy gadgets. shruggy I use a similar cheap kit to bleed a master and then It’s onto the one man setup. wrench drive

I want my fair share

With the Motive setup I can bleed all 4 brakes by myself with no pumping pedals or refilling master cylinders. One right after the other with no need to stop.

You buy the rectangular adapter Motive sells or the kit that includes the adapter.Motive Kit

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

You go to the Motive website and use the application guide. It will tell you which adapter you need.

My 51 Plymouth uses a different setup than your 69.
