So this is NOT a consideration of money efficiently spent to make power. I have an itch I have never scratched. I have had this itch since the mid 90s but life happens and it never got scratched. Now at 53 I have the $$ (and hopefully long term health) for this endeavor but money may not be enough to have it work correctly. I'd love a low profile, dual quad small block. Why? Because I do. it screams early days of hot rodding and even early 60s muscle cars. So my project is a clean 1995 Dakota 2wd standard cab short box with the 318. I'm entertaining dumbing it down to carburetors and traditional ignition. This scenario would be an Offenhauser 273 dual quad manifold with 2 500 Edelbrocks. I would have magnum heads drilled for this LA intake. Never mind the performance compromises of this set up- I want duals. Next possibility- The Indy Mod Man intake. It can be had with the Magnum bolt angle. It can be had with a dual quad top. But its a compromised design with its HUGE open plenum- best suited for a roots blower. So If I ran dual Holley Sniper Throttle Bodies- the ones with the injectors built in (Glorified carburetors?) will the pressurized injection mask the Mod Mans less than desirable street design? My goal would be 340ish HP and then a 150 shot of NOS. Application would be simply cruising around, going to work and running errands. No strip time.

I am doing something similar for the flathead in my 51 Plymouth.

The Offenhauser intake I am contemplating is not the best for an LA head because the intake ports are 273 sized- which in itself is not a problem. The problem is there very little material around those 273 sized ports and its hard to get that little amount of aluminum to seal around the much much larger LA port. But using that intake on a Magnum engine is a better fit as the Magnum int ports are smaller than LA ports. The reason for my consideration of the ModMan is than the ModMan is actually less $$ than a new Offenhauser. Used Offys are officially insane and there is no guarantee a used unit is corrosion and tamper (milled) free.

The last I knew, the only first year production 273 with very small ports, then the 273 and the LA 318 had the same port size, both intake and exhaust. The 273 valves were smaller.
The LA 340 and LA 360 have the same port size, intake and exhaust, valve size changed through the years.
The Mag 318 and 360 have the same port size.

Did I miss when things changed? I kind of got away from keeping tabs on the latest stuff in the automotive world after 1994 until recently.
