ok, i have the diagram, now i have a stupid question, it shows the connector to the dist. hookup, the white not used, the red to the positive on the coil, the orange to the ground of the coil, and a 12volt wire coming from the ignition to the postitive on the coil and i am done, my question is what happens to the ballastor, what happens to the voltage regulator?
and the ecu box, do i take all this off when i put the MSD 5900 blaster on car?

u need the voltage regulator...the ballast can go along w/the ECU. some use that stuff as back up tho I took it off and never looked back.

get the Denso alt THEN u can ditch the voltage regulator. I did and it's great!

when installing MSD with a stock harness. a good place to hook up the key power, small red wire, is to the blue or brown wires leading to the ballast. then jump the blue wire to the brown. the blue wire has power at the key on position. the brown has power at the key start position. when hooked together you will have power at all times the key is turned on.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

In case you need help with wiring click the thumb image and then click the enlarged version.

Do not disconnect the voltage regulator unless you are changing your charging system. You do need your regulator.

Are you wiring this under the hood or under the dash?

If you do not disconnect the wires from the resistor you can grab either the Blue with the tracer or the Brown wire from the ignition switch. These wires lead from the ignition switch to the middle of the bulkhead at the firewall.

Now remember this, if you remove the wires from the resistor you must connect the Blue with the tracer or the Brown wire together.

Otherwise the motor will fire up only when cranking or only when you let go of the ignition switch. Not both.

Notice these wires do not go to the fuse box.

im planning on taking the resistor out and soldering in a piece of wire in its place to use it as a terminal block, and hooking my switched power there.
