i think you have an obstruction in the discharge passage that runs up to the squirter. if you look at the bottom throttle lever side of the carb below the curb idle screw you'll see what looks like a plug. this plug is used to close up the drilled pump discharge passage. remove this plug and clean the passage out. you'll have to come up with another plug to replace what you take out but this will probably save the carb. bet it's full of crap. also, you may be able to snake something up the passage from the pump well discharge port. i've used small wire ties to clean some of these passages out but that's a tight bend there. maybe a smoking pipe cleaner will get in there.

i think you have an obstruction in the discharge passage Once the delay spring collapses, gas shoots out like a firehose.

I took the needle and return spring out, and it acts the same. It's like the leather seal is creating more friction than the delay spring rate. I stretched the delay spring out a bit, put the needle and return spring back, and I think it's even worse. Looking at the pic blown up, the new seal's starting to look worse than the old one. Guess I've been messing with it too much. Guess I'll try one of those viton, or whatever rubber type seal. Needle, return spring, nozzle, old, and new pump Down the discharge nozzle channel. In the pic the new pump spring has less coils. I also have tried adding oil to the leather cup. It makes them swell and then they're too tight. Why not try the original pump? Just put together a set of AFB's Ive owned for 30 years. Soake the original pump leathers in fuel. They work perfect. Doug
