when my buddy needed tires for his wife's 72 duster, i had to make do with the wheels he had already bought. they were cragar 15x7 with a 4 1/2" back space.
as the car was set at the ride height it was going to be, and knowing all about the fender edge clearance issue of these cars, i was clearly boxed into a situation that was going to be kind of difficult to come up with a good solution.
he also stipulated the tires had to be white letter BFG's.
after a couple of mock-ups using my collection of roller wheels and tires, plus knowing tire dimensions are usually not what is posted, i came up with using 205-60's BFG white letters.
they look good, fit the wheel opening good, and there are no rubbing issues whatsoever.
for the rear i choose 225-70 BFG's. that size filled the rear opening, with no issues there as well.
both tires have a 6" tread width, and fit the 7" wheels very good.
just my experience with the thread question. your mileage will vary.
