Looking for expert advice on the probable distributor for my 71 Charger R/T w/ A36 with 4 barrel. Car is a super track pack automatic and I cant tell if it was original electronic or single points distributor. Is there particular holes on the firewall that I should look for that would give me a tell-tale that it had electronic control box? I dont have the build sheet and the original engine harness was chopped up for racing ignition. Its my understanding that the sixpack cars got a dual point system but I dont know if the 4barrel super track pack cars would've came with. I'm eager to hear from you all. Thank you. -KD
I only buy MADE IN USA.

Single points. For 71 the electronic ignition was an option on 340 cars. 72 was an option on all cars and 73 it was standard. I believe 1972 first year for standard electronic ignition. Ron

1971 - DISTRIBUTOR SOLENOID All 383 and 440 engines (except the 440 3-2V) have a solenoid incorporated in the distributor vacuum advance mechanism to retard the ignition timing when the throttle is closed. At closed throttle, electrical contacts on the carburetor throttle stop and with idle adjusting screw in the closed position, causes the dis- tributor solenoid to energize. This retards the ignition timing to provide reduced exhaust emissions under hot idle conditions. Cold or part throttle starting is not penalized because the distributor solenoid is not energized unless the hot idle adjusting screw is against the throttle stop contact. Timing must be set at closed throttle to give ignition full retard. Read all about it here https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/vacuum-advance-w-solenoid.171617/
