Can anyone tell me....
What I've noticed is 1970 440-6paks pcv hose wraps around the rear of the carburetors and the 71's wrap around the front of the carburetors... is this true ? Did the years dictate which direction and why the difference?

I cant imagine around the front would be correct

Shortest distance would be around the back , and its same intake , same carb fittings and same PCV valve location .

I'm not sure about the big blocks but the Trans Am cars had the hose routed around the back of the distributor

Recent MCG has a story of a 71 Green RT that Tim Welborn had Roger Gibson restore, an engine view shows the PVC hose in front. Now anything I have read on Mr. Gibson signifies that one of his many specialties is six pack engines. I would have to say that on a 1971 440 six pack engine the PVC hose routes around the front.

Also.....in the February issue of Mopar Action they show a similiar picture as posted earlier but for a 440-6 pak on page 93 showing a 70 being routed in the back. My other books show some 70's (maybe late 70's) and most 71,s routed around the front. What's the reasoning.....one thought.....if the car has power brakes maybe that's why it goes around the front to avoid too many hoses in back ?....maybe

Unless I don't understand English anymore all I see are examples of rear routing. Rear routing is the only way I've seen so can you post a picture of said engine with front routing?

A couple of Pics.....Tim Wellborns 71 Charger and a concourse cutaway. I've seen several highly restored six pack cars with both locations.....not sure why.

My 70 Challenger R/T 440-6 that I purchased new in 1970. All Original back then an untouched. Not a Great picture, but you can see the hose comes around the back next to the coil.

May I be the first here to say the routing is 100% wrong on Tim Wellborn's 71 Charger in the picture you provided!!!
The PCV hose should go through the throttle bracket (rear routing) period!!

I have no idea why it was routed to the front but I never take anything I read or see in a magazine as gospel.
I had a few of my own cars featured over the years in magazines and although I gave an interview with facts about my cars they sometimes decided to make the article more colorful with incorrect facts. I know that's not the same case with a picture but IMHO it's just routed incorrect until I see a factory schematic showing both ways.

What's specified and what a line worker might do could be 2 different things...
But I would think the intent was to prevent the hose from fouling the throttle linkage, hence the rear routing spec.
You can really only trust untouched original cars for stuff like this, I think - caveat being my 1st sentence.

This 71 Challenger RT is in the Wellborn collection. Unrestored barn find, but it goes without saying "that doesn't prove anything". A couple of engine bay pics and a couple of the PCV routing.
