Hello,

Can someone help me decipher this motor? I have a 440 six pack Cuda. I am 99% sure the motor is NOT the original. I went up today to take out the starter to find the motor VIN. I read it is by the started opening. To make a LSS there is NO numbers there? I do have a plate on the Passenger Side by the oil pan. It reads OC1785(2 or 7)4. The tab on the top of the motor reads F440 28HP. The date on the block os 11 5 69. My Cuda's VIN is BS23V0B326718. This gives me the idea that its not the correct motor. I would really like to know if anyone would have an idea what this may have come out of? All the mopar books I have read says the the VIN should be by the starter. Any help is greatly appreciated.

That engine came out of a "C" body, the number you found on the Passenger side is the VIN & the second digit indicates the plant it was installed into a car at... In this case "C" which is Jefferson Michigan... They built "C" bodies at Jefferson...

What Mopar books are saying that it's by the starter ? If you actually have books that tell you that you should throw them out because I doubt any other info in them is correct either ...

But it's still NOT the original engine ... plus it's pretty early for a car with that VIN , I'm guessing it was built in may or june ?

The Cuda has a spd of April 30th.The C Body Is roughly Dec 7/69. You must have missed a digit on the top pad...it's more like 11 28.
