Lake mead. We all know its receded big time revealing lots. These folks snatched up a little boat that apparently sank in 1989 and are fixing it up. In a later video they get the 460 running! Their videos are kind of long with lots of banter but still neat.

Santa5 neat . I wonder if the Original Owner or Family that Owned it , is still alive ? Hull Numbers , Registration Numbers would be pretty fun to track down and hear the story about HOW it Sank . Just like a Barn find , that Boat must have been a Blast to drive back in 1992 , 1993 according to Hull Registration Decal . XmasPengs and with the baby bottle and toys in Boat , probably young kid out with Wife + Hubby . Boat Sinks , and wifey says , You are NOT going to ever Recover that Boat ! spank

They are working on locating the owners. After the boat is refurbished they said they will offer it give it back to them. I personally would keep it- or sell it back to them. The jet pump was bound up due to ingesting a nylon rope.

Funny, that channel use to be about demo derbies, it was basically the wife's deal, the guy (driver with the hat) never seemed to care about it or being on camera but since they piggy backed off matts offroad recovery and changed the name he seems to care more (because it probably makes money now)

I stand corrected. Thanks. The engine was well preserved. The carburetor is a pile of crumbles. Some say the carb and other components acted as a sacrificial anode. The sediment must have been the type that preserves- like peat?

They found the owners and reunited them with it. The story of how it ended up there is incredible, definitely NOT what I was expecting!

The story from the original owner was incredible. Other boaters not willing to help them. Those low riding boats swamp very easily.

Yeah, that's a special kind of douche bag that would leave people (with small children, no less) in real danger of dying. I have no idea how people with that mentality live with themselves.
The captain of that big party boat that tried his best to not pick them up deserved a proper beating.

Indeed especially if the people going by had a high transom boat. Those squalls on Powell can be gnarly.

I had my Sanger Flatty swamped a bunch of times. Never anchor it with stern to the lake, always to shore. Happened mostly when trying to put it on the trailer when a wind came up from the back and a swell started. Sometimes made the decision to go to the other side of the lake and pull it heading upwind if possible.

My boat might have been at risk to sink, but, you do what you can to help them out. Boat tends to not swamp with bow into swell. Throw extra life preservers, get them on board and break every 5 mph/no wake speed limit necessary to get to shore. If the CG wants to give you a ticket for saving someone, so be it.

On the high seas if you ignore a distress signal you can be held accountable.

When it comes to rescuing life at sea, two international conventions provide guidance. The International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (IMO 1974) states that “the master of a ship at sea, on receiving a signal from any source that a ship or aircraft or survival craft there of is in distress, is bound to proceed with all speed to the assistance of the persons in distress informing them if possible that he is doing so.”

I don't know the conditions that boat sank in but do have some experience in nasty water. Years ago, I bass fished a lot and tournament fished too. I live near two very large lakes that get upside down pretty quick. In one tournament the weather was bad with the wind blowing straight up the lake, there were 15' waves. Five boats sank that morning, luckily no one drowned. A harbor (small tow) boat rescued eight of the fishermen, the other two were in a boat that lost power and were blown against the bank, they stood on the bank and watched a brand new bass boat beat to death against the rocks. I can tell you without a doubt, no one could stop to help without their boat being sank too. My fishing partner and I made it across the lake into the canal that joins the two. After reaching the canal when I stood up water ran out of my rain suit and was over my boots in the boat. That is the only thing that has ever scared me, and I've had cars in some stupid places at stupid speeds when I was young. My daughter was about three at the time and all I could think was that she was going to grow up never knowing her dad. We were in one of the early flights and didn't see any of the guys in trouble.

Having said all of that, children change the whole deal, but I won't judge. I've seen the monster and I've said the prayers, by the grace of God I'm here today.

Thats why they're the last boat you buy to use as a family boat. When we had our cottage, some city guy bought the cottage next door and he bought a brand new $70,000 boat just like that (it was even yellow and white), not only did the stupid thing almost sink right at his dock (my mom bailed it out and saved it when they weren't there) it almost sank again with him, his pregnant wife and 2 small babies in it when waves started coming over the sides in a light storm. His wife said she was never riding in it again and he ended up buying some 70's beater off the marina and used that for the family. He sold the ricky racer ski boat not long after.
