Here's a question for the experts out there:

The problem with a two-piece trunk pan is that the CENTER OF ATTRACTION that catches everyone's eye, is the very middle of the pan, where a very long weld line exists.

I'm ok with a two-piece pan, but admit a full (one-piece) trunk pan just looks much better.

Question:
Has anyone tried taking a FULL (one-piece) trunk pan, and cutting the wings (parallel to where the wheelhouse connects), so that it slides right in ? A Full trunk pan the width between the wheelhouse will slip right in.

==> I know that I now have (2) welds on the edge, instead of one in the middle, but it would give a much better appearance (and be much easier to cover up and smooth out.

Curious if anyone has tried this and what was the outcome ?

Thanks in advance
Mike

I have only done one on a 1970 B-body, but after the old one was cut out & the frame rails, etc, prepped I slid / maneuvered the one piece pan in from the gap at the rear tail panel.

Do you need to cut both "wings" off or maybe just one and try?

Good point, I will definitely try.

I'm trying to keep this car as original as possible and not remove the whole tail panel.

We will see,

Thanks

I think this is a good option. If it were me I'd cut it down the middle of a frame rail flange so it has backing for your welds.

Before cutting both sides, I would cut one and see if you can make it fit that way somehow.

And you could possibly find a large piece of cardboard or tape some cardboard together and make a templet of the floor pan to see what you need to do to fit it in with the least amount of cutting or modifying. It's possible you might just need to cut one wing and notch another area or partially cut and slightly bend to get the pan in?

The trunk floor will slide right in easily from the rear with the the tail panel removed. No need to cut anything.
The trunk floor welds to the tail panel, so it has to be all separated along the length of the tail panel anyway, so the tail panel is 80% removed already.
I have installed may AMD full tail trunk floors.
Have a look at the install post I did on here a few years ago

I was wondering how the OP made out with the trunk pan replacement and went back and pulled up the thread. Then I saw your post and link to a post you made nearly 9-1/2 years ago and realized I had even made the comment "that was impressive" !! I wonder if the OP saw it?

Your photos from your thread up up beer up up

You slid that trunk pan from the bottom, between the tail panel and the rear bumper brackets ?
--> Without removing the tail panel ?

I assume it would also work on a 70 Bee ?

Nice work !

I'm just finishing up resto on my 69 A12 Bee and will start on this 70 Bee very soon.
This looks like the best option.

Thanks
