My daughter's '95 Chrysler Concorde 3.5L that she has had for a little over a year has been leaving her stranded the past couple weeks. Sometimes it will start sometimes it won't. All power is good(horn, lights, instrument panel etc) except the starter won't even make a click. I replaced starter relay, tested starter(good). I know these cars have lots of quirks... but I need some help. Is it as simple as a battery to starter cable needing replaced or something much more complicated?

Clean the battery connections. Then get a test light and when it wont start hook the light to the battery neg.And hit the key and see if it lights when on the small starter terminal. If it does the new starter has a bad spot.If it dosent ight probally the ign switch.Rocky

Next time it happens try moving the shifter a bit and see if that helps. It might be a neutral saftey switch problem.

The battery clamps on those car are junk, I have had the same issue, spend $5 and change them and I bet your problem goes away.

I dont know if the clamps are junk.My 96 still has them and no problems.Sounds just like the starter in my 96.It would start ok and then just click.Starter was bad.Just because the starter is new dosent mean its good.In 40 years turning wrenches for a living Ive had lots of bad new parts. Why is it most say its new it cant be bad.Rocky

I said they are junk because they are prone to streaching, we have 5 used LH cars (95-97) and I had to replace clamps on all of them. If your clamps are good then you may have been more gentle with their removal than the previous owners of these were. That said I would check them, they to streach to the point where they cant be tightened enough and from time to time that poor connection produces a no start or just a click. In my experiences replacing a loose clamp before looking at the starter cured the problem.

These cars are known for their finicky ignition switches, too.

First, try the key dance- key in ignition, then turn on (to on position, not start), off, on, off on, leaving it in the on position. Watch for the check engine light to flash, and write down the code (32, 54, etc.).

Lots of help here, too: http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums/

Well Ive worked on probally a few hundred at least and have never had to replace an end yet.Its just as easy to get a test light and see if the small terminal gets power when it wont crank. Its a 2 minute test.Ive had a few with bad ign switches which wont set a code so that is useless.Like I said Ive had bad new starters and other parts right out of the box.Especially if its a cheap reman.Rocky

I picked up a new cable to starter yesterday that I will put on. Had starter tested at parts house and tested good. I will try the ignition switch thing to see if I get a code. If I don't get code then I can assume ignition switch is bad? If I get code ignition switch should be ok, right? I'll also do test with test light. I know these cars are very quirky and didnt' know if this was something very common with these cars.

OK... feeling stupid now. I've checked all mentioned things to no avail. I've moved shifter but didn't help. Was going to try to replace nuetral safety switch. I looked but couldn't find it. Where'd they put it?!?!

Just found out it's INSIDE the transaxle behind valve body. A little more involved to change out than an old 727 for sure!
