hey guys,
just started on a disc brake conversion on my 69 bee. Got the drums and shoes off pretty easily but am having a real hard time cracking the lower bolts that connect the spindle to the backing plate. Would taking heat to it be a bad idea due to it being so close to the ball joints and bushings? Kind of a dumb question but I figured Id ask before I did something that could do some damage.

It will be easier to break the nuts loose on back first.

I'm assuming that you have removed the cotter pins from the lower two nuts, right? It is alright to put some heat on the nuts in the back then use an impact wrench on it. Just don't over do the heat.

I have always just been able to use the impact, and maybe a little penatrating oil if need be

I had a hard time getting mine out also, used an impact and penetrating oil. I ended up heating mine up a little after that didn't work and they finally broke free...
