sample quote

A major fuel supply and logistics company is raising a red flag on upcoming diesel fuel shortages.

Mansfield Energy issued the alert Friday stating there was a developing diesel fuel shortage in the southeastern region of the United States. The company speculated that the shortage could be generated from "poor pipeline shipping economies" and a historically low supply of diesel reserves.

"Poor pipeline shipping economics and historically low diesel inventories are combining to cause shortages in various markets throughout the Southeast," the company said. "These have been occurring sporadically, with areas like Tennessee seeing particularly acute challenges."

"Because conditions are rapidly devolving and market economics are changing significantly each day, Mansfield is moving to Alert Level 4 to address market volatility," Mansfield's press statement said. The company continued, "Mansfield is also moving the Southeast to Code Red, requesting 72-hour notice for deliveries when possible to ensure fuel and freight can be secured at economical levels."

That would be an easy choice out here (southwest). Diesel is $1.65/gal more per gallon than gas right now. And we have a new tax that will go into effect after election day. It was supposed to go into effect on July 1 but they decided to delay it until later in Nov. I wonder why? Nothing more I can say without getting in trouble.

Diesel is around $1.40 more per gallon here in northern Illinois at the moment, around $5.15... mad

I have a choice of 8.6 MPG with the gas truck or 20+ MPG with the diesel truck.

I have a 2015 diesel Ram and a 2015 5.7 hemi Ram. Unloaded at 65 I get 20 mpg with the diesel and 15 mpg with the Hemi. 30 gallon fill on either right now is $154.50 for the diesel and $115.50 for the hemi. So with the diesel Ram my cost per mile is 25.8 cents and the gas Ram 25.7 cents, so barely any difference. Now put a load on it and I get 17 mpg with the diesel and 11.5 with the gas. So 30.3 cents and 33.5 cents, so it is 3 cents cheaper to use the diesel. Now the trade off is 800 ft lbs of torque to 400 ft lbs, is sure is nicer to use the diesel!

Well now that I know how far off my odometer is I recalculated the gas truck to 9.1 MPG. Not too bad for an old 3/4 ton 4WD truck with 4.10 gears I guess. I'm hoping to get 10 out of it with some more tuning.

I drove my 04 Dodge diesel to Myrtle Beach and back this past weekend. I carried three 5-gallon cans to fill up on the way back if things looked sketchy. It's 314 miles from the house to the camper, and my truck will do it on a half tank if I don't run 80 mph. I filled it up when I got to the beach, and stopped in Spartanburg on the way home and topped it off. No signs of a shortage, but it may not have materialized yet. My extra cans are still empty except the one I keep full for my tractor. Who knows what will happen!?!? shruggy

You drove right past my house. I haven't heard of any shortages yet, but the way things are nowadays, it sure wouldn't surprise me. Might have to run on that red fuel out the big barrel before it's over with.

Chip....I've probably drove by your place hundreds of times in the last 9 years then....lol. I go down 20, to 95, then get off at exit 270, down to Old Marion Hwy and get on 76/501 at Dunkin Donuts and then onto 22 past Aynor. Straight off onto Kings Rd and to the campground (Myrtle Beach Travel Park). I am back this weekend and diesel at Murphy's on Kings Rd. went up 30 cents since last week. I've been working in FL all week though and have the gas burner company truck! grin
