I may be wrong on this, but I believe the HD has more stiffening ribs and mass. It's beefier. Dr. Diff would be the man to ask.

The HD has extra webbing plus it has thicker tubes. If you can use it do so.

I disagree. Why add weight when you don't have to since a Dana is already too heavy? Heavy HD housing with thick tubes are a total overkill for car applications especially when normal 60's with 1/4" or 5/16" wall tubes are still easy to find. Leave the heavy stuff for the rockcrawler guys.

The internals are the same. I suspect that it is a little heavier but have never compared them. As information we're running one in our Dart. Going from an 8.75 with a sure grip we gained 35# when we went to an HD-60 with a spool.
There is no way an HD housing is 100# heavier than a standard housing.

The difference may be 5-10 lbs.
Not worth fretting over for extra rigidity you get.
If you think 10 lbs is gonna make you set the national record thats another story.
Then you wouldnt want dana anyway.
