Putting a STR-15 on a 500ci low deck (I know its not the best but I wanted the look) and wondering what the best carbs to run? Edelbrocks or Holley's? Strip only right now but I might put in on the street in the future.

500 C.I. I would put a set of either 750 Holley D.P. (all four barrels flow the same at WOT) or a set of Holley 950 HP D.P. (they flow equally also up)
You may find that some carb spacers may help also, I'm not sure if 4 hole or open would be best: confused:

Many years ago(at least 45 blush) I acquired a used STR14 and called Edelbrock to get a recommendation on carbs. The guy said sell it to a show car guy because it makes less HP than a TM7 and an 850. I sold it to a guy that was putting a 440 in a 57 Chevy. Never heard how that worked out.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

That intake has never been real popular. The factory cross ram runs fine with any Carter or Eddy. With the Indy cross ram the double pump Holley's have more pump shot which helps. That being said we've been 9.0 with 2 1407 Eddy's on an Indy. So in reality just about any carb will work.

A&A has a max-wedge crossram that is said to be pretty good. Other than the A&A and the 426SS cars, i have not seen a crossram make impressive numbers. I have been using BLP 650's(Thumpercarb) that i'm told flow 750 range on my Indy tunnel ram and 511. Work great, very responsive. I have a pair of BLP 850's for my 572 Hemi build i might try on the 511 just to see.

If it was me I'd start with a pair of the small Edelbrock carbs that are designed for dual carb use. I'd probably use the 19034 which is 500 cfm. That gives you a total of 1000 cfm which shouldn't have any trouble supporting 700+ hp. I doubt that you'll be able to make more than 700 with that intake manifold so no reason to put big carbs on there.

I had a customer who had me assemble his 383 high compression street motor for him with a cross ram intake like that one, he had either 600 or 650 Holley D.P. (CRS whiney), an old Isky street solid roller cam, 505T grind I think, with a stock 1962 727 tranny and converter, in a 1963 dart with the stock 7.0 inch rear end with probably 2.7? gears and small height 14 inch rims and street tires. That combination was a dead dog at WOT until it got up to 3000 RPM and then it would start to set you way back in the seat and pull really hard up to 8000 RPM, it was like it was on a switch. That was back in 1972/1973 era, I didn't know about LSA and other things I have since learned about up
I had agreed to do that job based on him installing an 8 3/4 rear end with 4;56 gears and a new B&M race converter, he punk out once the motor was assembled and insisted on hearing it run in the car so he could drive it, I should have said no way, JOSE tsk But I didn't realcrazy
One of the many mistakes I have made on this journey on learning how to go faster shruggy
I'm hoping my new car hauls the mail really fast boogieluck grin wrench
