Okay this might be a stupid question, but i want to know what's the best way to repaint an engine. I currently have a Chrysler blue 360 that I'd like to paint orange. I've already cleaned it, but should i strip the old paint off first? If so, what should I use? Also, what is a good orange to use? I've had bad experiences with the Mopar orange so I'm wondering if there is something else I can use.

Don't believe the clown at the auto parts store that tells you they don't make high temp primer for engine paint.

use aircraft stripper to remove the old paint, wire wheel, wire brush and soap and water.
repeat.
use a torch to "sweat " the oils out of the block.
break clean or starter fluid
then you can paint directly on the block.

I've used carb cleaner just before painting with good success, but I've heard some of them leave a residue. I haven't researched this to see if there's anything to it though. Never had a problem myself.

after all is clean and ready for paint I give the block a very light coat of self etching primer, let it dry for 30 minutes then paint.
