Mopar 56029274AA starter, 2005-2008 Ram 2500 5.7L manual trans starter. I've seen people using this with small blocks, and on GenIII Hemi swaps with older transmissions. I'm sure it would work with the Big Block TKX swap I'm working on, but I haven't found anyone who's tried it. Looks like a lot more room for header clearance. I tried the mini starter, and I had to stop smashing the hell out of the header before there was nothing left. The starter is moved out about an inch from the block compared to a 727. You can see how much I had to smash the tube, and it still didn't fit. I've got 3/8" clearance using the stock starter.

Here's what it looks like from Mancini Racing's web site. Check out the pics compared to the more commonly used mini starter.

If they work with a small block, why wouldnt it work with a big block?

I want my fair share

Don’t pay crazy Bouchillon price, you can pick up an aftermarket starter on Amazon for $80 shipped.

If it does, why isn't everyone using it instead of the Denso starter that sticks out more than the original?

Because they do not even know about the hemi starter?

From what I've found out, the automatics have the starter on the passenger side, and the manuals on the driver's side, so it's only the manual application that works. Some say it won't work with a 904 transmission, but Mancini says theirs will. I don't know if the one Mancini sells is the same starter, but it sure looks like it. Perhaps they modify it. I do know that the top mounting hole is threaded, and needs to be drilled, but that should be it. Now when using it with the GenIII Hemi, the block may need some grinding, which I can't figure out since that what this starter came on. Perhaps the older transmissions locate the starter a little higher than it would be if using the transmission it came with. I don't mind being the guinea pig other than I don't want to chew up my new flywheel. It just gives so much more room for headers.

Just looking at it the clearance alone, it will be a huge benefit from a heat soak cooking the starter perspective.

is that without a core charge ?
rock auto has a couple of different rebuilds for $68.00ish, but they have a $40 something core charge.

I'll check when I get home, but I'm worried about the solenoid on top of the starter hitting the tab sticking out the block. With the mini starter, you can kind of see how high it is above the upper starter mounting bolt.

Here it is above the stock starter.

Look on Amazon for:
410-48238

Free shipping, no core, free returns, send it back if it doesn't fit.

I'm in the middle of a 5.7 swap and it bolted up, after drilling out the top hole as mentioned, and did need to clearance the block pan rail.
But that's a 5.7 thing, haven't started the motor yet.

I have a 2007 Ram 1500. The starter is on the drivers side in my truck. It is a 5.7 with the 545RFE automatic.

All Ram's in that era had the starter on the drivers side on a 5.7 Hemi, Automatic or manual trans.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

Perhaps the cars did. I have no idea. The starter is definitely different from the automatic.

PMGR: Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction

Compactness is important with engine swaps or long-tube headers. The first Chrysler gear reduction starters used offset gears that added width. The advantage of late-model PMGR starters is the planetary gear-reduction system that multiplies torque while being entirely in line with the armature shaft. Planetary gear multiplication (similar to gear reduction in automatic transmissions) produces a major torque increase within a very small envelope.

Looks like it's a no go. I did a CAD (cardboard aided drafting) mockup, and the solenoid hits the block, even if the big lug is removed.

From the side, I had to fold down the solenoid to fit.

I taped the solenoid on top so you can see how high it sits, and it completely obstructs the lug sticking out the side of the block.

[Linked Image]

It's hitting the side of the block, pushing the template away from the block, so the block itself interferes with this starter. Too good to be true, I guess.

Heres a screen grab.
I like this idea for my Dakota since the headers really crowd the original starter
