I'm thinking of buying and using a Pro Charger F3R-130 for a new build soon, I'm not sure if there is an advantage to using a gear driven version versus a cog belt driven set up help
All comments on your use are and will be appreciated up bow
Thanks in advance: Cab

Gear drives are hands down the way to go for racing. I don't know anyone that races a procharged combo with a belt drive that doesn't get tired of constantly dealing with belts. The other advantages are - easier to change drive ratios, less drag than turning a large belt, puts the weight low and forward (at least for radial racing), and the blower inlet is front facing usually without any obstructions so good, clean and cool air. Two disadvantages - initial cost and packaging. You'll need to get creative with radiator location.

Racing: Brand X, X275 Procharged Smallblock on M1, Leafsprings, Holley EFI = 4.30 @ 168

Get ready to spend 10 grand. For a drive and head unit combo.

iagree A guy I know runs (I think) a cogged F2 side mount, he will just go home if he throws the belt at the track. Due to the tight constraints in the engine bay it takes him 4 -5 hours to replace a belt. He's running in a street class which means treads, if the engine revs up when the tyres spin and he lifts, it throws the belt. It happens a lot unfortunately. I'd run a gear drive and work out how fit stuff around it if I was going to use a Procharger.

Even with the front gear drive, changing gear ratios isn't all that easier. I've worked on both. just got done switching ratios in a gear driven dragster. Had to pull engine in order to change gears, not a real big deal on dragster, could be more involved on a door car. The belt drives that I have worked on were dragsters as well, was really easy as long as you weren't making a big change, just loosen belt and change upper pulley. They do throw belts at most inappropriate times. There are also different versions of front mounts, as was mentioned earlier. Good luck, they are fun to drive! Jim.

Should you be concerned about harmonics with a gear drive verse a belt ? Was told that a Jesel belt drive is much better because its absorbing harmonics instead of creating them in regards to your cam drive . I imagine that gear drive sticking way out on the crank is going to put some harmonics through the engine. ..Someone that has seen the effects maybe can chime in if the harmonics are something to consider with these Pro-charger set ups.

IMO either work well to a point. Obviously with a side slinger you have a belt to deal with. But usually packaging is simpler and as noted any needed changes are made easier. My only experience is with drasgter using them as well

I'm going to use one of the Jesel belt drives I have on this motor up
As far as harmonics in the drive I am a lot more worried about the internal drive harmonics rotating the compressor in or at 72,000 RPM.
I am planning on shifting the motor before 8000 RPM and gear the Procharger for less than 30 Lbs. of boost at or above 7000 RPM work luck
I have a lot of learning to accomplish to get good on tuning a Pro Charger motor luck wrench shruggy

Every serious racer that I know of using a Procharger uses a gear drive.

I was a dealer for Chris Alston Chassis until they got bought out by Heidt suspension and they now don't offer the crank drives that Alston use to make whiney
I'm sure you, Jason and Doug are a lot more knowledgeable on Pro Chargers and how to use them than I will learn by myself, maybe I should call them work

Indy Cylinder Heads has the complete package already worked out for the race drive setup. Everything from the motor plate to the carb all you need is the charge tube. We put one on a 540 -1 motor in a dragster and the only change we had to make was taking a little jet out of the carb. Best so far is 4.13 at 176. F3R 112 with the 136 gear set.

Indy has been doing a ton of work on ProCharged Mopar stuff the last few years. As Challenger mentioned they have alot of those parts out there for BB, Hemi and Predator stuff.
