I just went through a '13 5.7 from a Durango that wiped a lobe. LOTS of grit in the oil galleys, MDS solenoids, pump bypass, etc. Its either full tear down or sell it for $700 as a good core with a wiped lobe for someone else to go through and clean out. It would only take a few errant chunks of old cam to destroy the new lifter rollers and do it again.

I have torn apart a ton of them and bearings and stuff usually look like new, the first one I did had 300,000 miles on the original motor and the motor looked great upon complete dissasembly. The stuff usually gets caught in the filter and settles into the bottom of the pan as it is steel and heavy. Another time I bought a 2009 3/4 ton in Tuscon with a bad cam/lifter and drove it over 1000 miles home and again bearings looked new.
I would throw in a new cam and only use the new mopar lifters, make sure when you buy the lifters from the dodge dealer or online or whatever that the last 2 digits of the part number are "AD" they have larger needle bearings that do not get stuck on as small of a particle as a smaller needle does. The lifter is the problem not the cam, the flat cam is a result not a cause. Try rolling the "good" lifters from the other 15 lobes on a flat piece of glass and you will hear some of them clicking already before they ate those lobes.

How did the oil pumps on those engines look? Any trash that didn't go directly into the bottom of the pan would get sent to the oil filter but it has to go through the pump first if in fact anything stays suspended long enough for that to happen. Oil pump rotors have just a little evidence of some particles going through them but they would all still build at least 20PSI oil pressure at hot idle before dissassmbly.

Can you get the cam out of a Ram without removing the AC condenser? I dont know how similar they are, but for a grand cherokee, it says you MUST remove it. Ive seen 2 videos on YouTube of individuals doing cam swaps with it pulled to the side, not evacuated and refilled. Maybe same for you?

The cylinders do not shut off until the lifter gets oil pressure so they are not the problem. Does it "try" to start or anything? Any check engine lights or anything? I would check the crank sensor on the back passenger side of the block, you may have pulled too hard on the harness up front and pulled some pins out of it.

It is easy to not get a pushrod seated in the lifter and rocker, both ends can be a pain and could cause uneven cranking.

I loosened the oil filter and a bunch of oil came out. So the idea of no oil pressure is wrong. It will start initially but I shut it down immediately due to a knocking sound. I wonder if I have and exhaust pushrod that is not seated. It won't restart after the initial start. I will pull the valve covers off next to check how the valves are moving.

The pushrods were not seated on the lifters on cylinder #8. I will check the drivers side tomorrow. I'm not gonna bother telling you how I knew to check that.
