Well, our second dishwasher in 16 years has apparently STB, so it's time for #3. Last time I researched what to get & general consensus was Kitchen Aid - made in the USA. Bosch was waaay too finicky & high-tech & a digital nightmare with lots of control panel failures - these are a few items I remember from past research. Anyway, we don't need anything fancy, just something that works well & will last a while.
Any advice much appreciated as I'm planning on heading out later today to get one. I am not going to try & repair this one!!! I know how to install them, not fix them!

Do not under any circumstance even consider Samsung or LG. Totally agree ! These are sold by big box stores. When we replaced (all) our appliances a year ago I wasn't going to buy this brand but my wife was "looking" in Lowes and of course a soleperson started giving her the pitch. When he was done I asked "what's replacement parts availabilioty like" and he looked to the floor and sheepishly replied "there aren't any" !! Go to a scrapyard some day and look at all the scrapped appliances ... they're all Samsung or LG I'll take North American or European any day - I won't touch an Asian major appliance !!

Family member with Samsung isn’t pleased with how it cleans. Hasn’t failed yet because she hand washes most often lol
Had to go away from timer knobs many years ago in the rentals. Might do better with an owner at the helm than a renter. Had good luck with whirlpool quiet partners with the hard food disposer. Very hard to get one these days that has that feature. Just a way better setup than a filter.
Bosch here was 13 years old when we bought place. Owners fed it lots of dog hair. I got it cleaned up and it did pretty well until it sprung a leak under all the covering day before Christmas. Replaced with new Bosch. Been stellar so far.
I want my fair share

When he was done I asked "what's replacement parts availabilioty like" and he looked to the floor and sheepishly replied "there aren't any" !! No sales droid I know has a clue about that. I don't have any problems getting parts for my LG, had it for about 12 years now. But I don;t buy parts from the big box store, which if that is what the droid was thinking is the only way this makes any kind of sense.

I think all kitchen appliances now are crap. All of our major appliances are Whirlpool (range, fridge, microwave) with the exception of the dishwasher which is a Maytag. They are all over 20 years old. Looking at what's out there now, I can't find anything that is even close to what I have based on a touch, feel, and look evaluation.

I like our Jenn-air, it is made in the USA! Another American made brand is Viking.

Our 15 year OLD fridge and dishwasher finally crapped out beyond repair and we went to the local "scratch and dent" outlet--they get all the stuff Home Depot has to take back due to damage. Got a heavy discount and warranty still in effect.
We went with stainless Kitchen Aid dishwasher and fridge. Also got the stove and microwave to match--our old stuff was white and everything now is stainless.
I'm 90% sure our Kitchen Aid dishwasher is a Whirlpool under the skin. So far so good. Cleans WAY better, is WAY quieter, and holds WAY more than the old one in the same space.

Yes, Whirlpool makes Kitchen Aid and Maytag. I'd suggest to OP to get one with the stainless steel tub.

Yes, Whirlpool makes Kitchen Aid and Maytag. I'd suggest to OP to get one with the stainless steel tub. I had a Whirlpool, the diverter valve went bad, twice in three years.

I have a Bosch that is about 6 or 7 years old now. Zero trouble, super quiet, super powerful, zero complaints.
I actually set out to buy whatever was a step above frigidaire because mine only last 3-4 years. I ended up with the Bosch because it has this awesome tray on top for silverware and I do not regret my purchase one bit.

It's been several years but I got a Kenmore because CR gave a high rating. I remember the Boschs getting high ratings too. I've been happy with it. Only thing is they are all probably very low water use/water conservation and take a very long time on normal cycle. The first time I used it I couldn't believe how long it took. You have to remember to turn it on long before you need dishes!!!

Well, I went & done it - got a GE with stainless tub. They said the Whirlpools were way backlogged & they did not even know when they would get more in. I liked the layout inside the best & liked the way the sprayers were situated inside. It'll be in tomorrow from their warehouse. I was not impressed with the Whirlpools or the Maytags. (the first dishwasher in the home we are in was a Maytag & we were never happy with the performance of it). Anyway, that's the scoop. Appreciate all your feedback.

We had a Bosch, and it was fantastic. However, their other appliances are garbage. When we remodeled the kitchen, we wanted matching appliances, and we went with Kitchen Aid. The dishwasher has been great so far. Not quite as good as the Bosch (which was nearly silent and had a faster wash/dry cycle), but overall, we're very happy with it.
