Hey, I'm trying to help my youngest step son with the fuel line on his '03 Dakota.

Fuel pump died, he replaced it, and, I have no idea how he did it but the quick connector to the pump/plastic line near it got damaged.

The only kit I can find to repair 5/16 quick connect is
Dorman 800-057
But it does not connect to the fuel pump module, won't even snap on the fuel pump stub.
It LOOKS like it should fit and was attempted, no good.
Dorman shows nothing for a 2003 dakota fuel system.

52102439AA/B is the mopar number that seems to come up online (not 100% sure if that is accurate), but it's NS1 as I'd expect.

So, running out of ideas.....how can I help him here?

Have him pull the fuel pump module out and weld an AN fitting to it for him so he can use expensive aftermarket line on this old beater? Maybe pushlock or similar?
It will void whatever warranty the fuel pump had....but would work....

Splice in one from the junkyard if and when found?

I've never damaged plastic fuel line before and had no idea what a PITA it was.

When I did the plastic lines on my Dakota frame, I got the parts for the quick connect from Oreille's. Warming up the plastic lines makes then go one the steel ends much easier, I think I used a hair dryer.

And, yes, it was a pain.

I recommended the old fashioned approach, take the old fuel pump + old quick connect to a GOOD parts store,
hope for a patient and willing counterman, and try everything they have until you get the right one.

He did, and finally found the right piece.

Main reason it was difficult:
the fuel pump module where the connect snaps on is 3/8, but the plastic line that connects to the quick connect is 5/16.
So OF COURSE a 5/16 quick connect wouldn't fit. How the hell is anyone supposed to guess they used two different sizes on the same fitting.

This is one of those moments a person might take a step back and question Chrysler Engineering's Infinite Wisdom
(in between swear words).

Looks like he is on the right track now.

I drove an '03 Dak for many years until my neighbor crashed into it. There are a TON of emissions and vacuum hoses on that truck that are the same way--different sizes on each end of the hose.

I was getting a bunch of CEL codes for evap leaks. When I went to replace all the cracked hoses under the cab I realized standard hose from the parts store wouldn't work because it was either too large or too small at one end. rant

I had a similar problem on a 1995 Ram when a squirrel gnawed on the fuel line about six inches from the quick connector to the fuel pump module.

I thought this only was a problem 1994-1995, and 1996+ had a different fuel line.

If this was still around in year 2003, that would seem to be deliberate by engineers

glad you got it figured out. The 97 trucks may be the peak of frustration with the plastic fuel rails on the magnum engines that crack at #7 injector like clockwork and had a internal fitting instead of external 3/8 like the years before AND after. Guessing someone got demoted for that one
