Heres the problem, red wire from msd to red wire coming from steering column, car starts but wont shut off with key switch but will at master switch. So which wire do I hook it to? You must be on a power line and not an ignition on line?

Yes small red wire is hot all the time. It is connected to the red wire coming out of column. From what I can tell from wiring diagrams is it should be on blue wire with tracer or brown wire or yellow wire all of which come out of column. If I jump to blue wire car will start but, only run if I hold starter engaged same with yellow wire. Brown wire and no start at all. Thx Randy

Just brake out a test light and find a keyed hot thats hot while its cranking and in the run position when you let off the starter & turns off with the key

Run the wire to a "switched" terminal on your fuse block.

Is it a stock fuse block or?

Jump the Brown wire and the dark blue/trc together and connect to your small red wire on the MSD

Brown gives power only during crank . giving full 12 volts to coil

dark blue/trc gives power only with the key on . It feeds the coil thru the resister.

The MSD small red wire just needs this power lead as a signal wire to sower on the MSD, voltage is not a concern.

Double check what I colored for you.

I'll check it if you like but it looks to be the same wires.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I should get voltage at the brown wire right? Problem is there no voltage at said wire. Beginning to think ign switch is bad.

Oil pan is on bench, has 4 small cracks. I will bring it up if I ever get a spare hour or two, you weld and I'll solder wires!

Brown hot only during cranking

If it is cut make sure you are connecting to the wire leading to the ignition and not leading to the engine compartment.

oh and make sure you are not grabing the brown wire from the turn signal connector.
