Cool car! Projects are great, especially father/son projects. Good luck with it. Tell us more about it.

I'm sure you did based on your attention to detail but make sure you remove the paint beneath the battery ground cable in the trunk (or maybe on the underside). I'm a stickler for grounds after chasing an issue with mine. Also love the Keystone Klassics

Cool car! Projects are great, especially father/son projects. Good luck with it. Tell us more about it. I bought this car in April of 2018 to replace my 79’ D100 that I had been racing for the last 10-15 years prior to breaking a piston. It was an Arizona car that had made its way to Michigan at some point before I found it so it was not your typical rusty Duster you find around here. I bought it as a roller minus the original slant 6, I already had the engine from the truck that I went over board on when fixing the broken piston and had added a 4” stroker kit. When I bought it the previous owner had sprayed the entire car inside and out flat black but from what we could tell that was directly over the original paint. So the first thing we did after we got the car home was start stripping the flat black off to see what was left of the original paint.

The engine is a 410” stroker with a scat cast crank and icon flat top pistons,a 508/292 purple shaft, ported 974 casting heads that have 2.02/1.60 valves and Harland Sharp 1.5 rockers, it has an air gap intake and proform 750 double pumper, it made 470hp/506 ft lbs on the dyno. It has a 727 with forward manual valvebody, A&A ultimate sprag, alto red clutches and kelo steels. The 8 3/4 is filled with a new clutch style suregrip and 4.30 Richmond gears in a 489 case, it’s sitting on 002/003 super stock springs with competition engineering adjustable shocks on all 4 corners. The entire drivetrain was built by me, the body and paint work were handled by my dad, he was able to save a lot of the original GY8 gold then he touched up the rest with single stage acrylic enamel and laid out and sprayed the fade panels, originally we planned to leave it in its patina, but it kinda snowballed. This car was built on a tight budget while I have been raising my 3 kids and going through a divorce. We have the car ready to fire for the first time right now but the used MSD 6AL box that I bought for it is no good and the replacement is ordered and should be here early this week. After it’s running we will re install the interior, ( mostly original with new carpet and headliner) , then get the hood cut for the 6 pack scoop and get it painted, then we be ready to hit the track. It’ll be a street strip car that see a lot of time at the track.

Thanks Gary, I’m looking forward to seeing you at the track too! I’d also like to thank everyone for the compliments , it’s been a long road to get it to where it is but today it paid off, I got to drive it for the first time and the best part is my kids were riding along with me. I’ll try to post the video of me taking my dad for his first ride but I’m honestly not sure exactly how.
