this new 2 billion should produce larvae that die off before they reach adulthood. This is thanks to the self-limiting gene that Oxitec has created.
If they die off as larvae they don't reproduce. Female mosquitos mate once then lay their broods. If the mate with one of these altered males they don't create the next generation of skeeters to carry on the species.
The last paragraph explained what it does, I’m not a skeeter expert. DDT does the same thing don’t it?
