Some mopars left here, but less than there were years ago. Seems like around 2000 and up several of the guys who had E and B body race cars slowly stopped racing them one by one, which is about the same time the values on old cars really started to climb. I have not been to the track in the last few years, but most of what was in the staging lanes were a-bodies - Dusters and some Darts. Think I saw a 66-67 Coronet in there too. At Firebird, I presume. I've hiked the hills behind the track with my brother who lives in Eagle. He's no gearhead, though... couldn't tell a spark plug from a PCV valve.

Just another perspective from the other side of the pond. At the sanctioned meetings we usually do, we do see a lot of muscle cars mainly tubbed out Chevy's, some Ford's and Mopar's, we mainly run in the bracket class 8.50 to 11.99 but also in NSS. We have a burgeoning NSS class that is predominantly Mopar's. The class runs at both the sanctioned and non sanctioned (lifestyle) events. At the non sanctioned events, the field will outnumber the sanctioned events 4 to 1. Rules are pretty loose, pretty much N/A only and stock style suspension, 10.5 tyre max. The faster cars run hi 8's (8.90 max limit and the low cut off is 14.99), though it is a bracket class. Rumors are we might make a 64 car field this year at a non sanctioned event. Last year they introduced a true Stock, S/Stock class using the NHRA rules, it's growing but I'm guessing a lot won't make the switch due to the more restrictive rules and the cars are a lot more expensive if you want to be competitive. At the Test and Tune's (RWYB's) we get a lot of AWD and FWD some of them are real fast (7's / 8's), impressive for sure. And modern stuff like Challengers, Charger's and Mustangs. The lifestyle events catering for the FWD / Import crowd are just wild parties I hear and we don't tend to go to them anyway, we're just not in their demographic I see a few modern Challengers and lots of new Mustangs when I'm out and about driving. Also the occasional classic mopar when the weathers good, (there's an early Barracuda in the town) and also a few rods ('Pops, Anglia's etc). However, with the price of just about everything going up over here, all the above may change .
'74 Challenger..9.46 @ 145.9 1/4, 6.001 @ 118 1/8 so far. 4023lb !!! # N/A, Marsh performance 655ci, Indy Maxx, T/R, Indy 600-13 X's, Street legal, pump gas, full interior, Cal-Tracs, mufflers, 3:73's and real 10.5 radials. 9.51 @ 142.4 1/4, 6.003 @ 114 1/8 with our old mule KB, 572-13, 580 wedge. In the 70s, Mopars were cheap and were very competitive so the tracks were full of them. Now, Mopars are expensive and are even more expensive to be competitive with. I still take my 70 Cuda to the track for the occasional KOS, but wouldn't race it regularly. Not because I'm afraid of hurting the drive train, but because I am very concerned about hurting the body. Somethings would be almost impossible to replace/repair.

I love driving my car to the track on a Friday night, beating on modern iron and driving it home.
Lots of curious looks and people asking what the car is. Still trying to fly the Mopar flag high...

Understand completely. Funny thing, though, is the only difference between me in the pits with the 1320 below and me in the pits with the '73 Challenger is the toolbox I bring with the old car. I've made a point with the '73 to never cross the line where I'd be uncomfortable driving it to the track. EDIT: I am also in a location where there are multiple tracks within a 2-hour drive. Capitol and Mason-Dixon are both about 60 miles away, MIR is 80, and Cecil County is 110. I've driven as far as Englishtown when it was still running, but those days are likely over for the '73.

Hard to compare the old cars to the new stuff especially when it comes to driving them to and from the track. My wifes 5500lb Mercedes SUV can click off high 11 low 12 second ET's at will makes the appeal of driving an old car less for sure. Our 911 is the same, can click off mid 11's with ease and n comfort with all the creature comforts. I do have an old street car than can still run mid 10's and I can drive it to and from the track but these days thats pretty mundane. Back when we first built it and drove to and from the track, 60 miles each way and it an high 9's NA it was something,it even has AC and an OD. But that was 2001 not 2022. Now anyone of a number of cars can do that in comfort with ease.

^^^ Absolutely! If my wife would have agreed to my getting an SRT Super Stock, I'd have cut loose the '73 just as it sits and moved on. All the people telling me how I could go as fast or faster w/ some of the new cars certainly makes an impression. The reality is I now have a very cool high 11- / low 12-sec daily driver, a 10-sec 49 YO work-in-progress to bring back to life... and three kids to still help get through college.

I really like the new Jailbreaks and have thought about selling the Cuda and taking the plunge. But the fact is, at 66 I don't know how much longer any of this will interest me. The wife is completely absorbed by the grand kids and I have very few friends left that still do the muscle car stuff. And frankly, even a new muscle car wouldn't change that. After the new wore off, it would be the same old, same old. After 50 years, I guess the hobby has just about run it's course for me.

We are blessed in the Pennsylvania and Ohio area as there are many many old school Mopars. At Keystone on test n tune nights both the new and old are represented well but rarely are the newer cars there on race day. I guess some run the street car class

Sounds like what a friend of mine who used to live in Grove City told me. His wife's family is in Butler and he said there's a pretty strong Mopar presence there, too.
