I have a gravel driveway that's about 1/3 mile long. Over time it develops pot holes. I'm looking at getting either a land plane or box blade to be able to help maintain the driveway better. For those of you that maintain gravel driveways which one do you prefer and why?

They both have their purpose. Land plane is more for finished roads. It works well with good gravel. The land plane allows a smoother finished grade due to its long platform it does not dig and rise like the box will. The box blade works well in developing rocky roads. The teeth can uproot rocks and the box will drag them out of the road. They also work well in snow. I snow blow off the front of my Kubota and scrape off the rear. The box blade also allows me to push going backwards. Either one can carry a decent grade as long as there is material to work with.

Need rippers to get to the bottom of the pot holes. You can get land planes with rippers but the box blade with be more useful for other jobs.

Lots of videos on Youtube showing both in use. The box blade can do as good a job on gravel roads as the plane plus the box does a lot of other things, too. I have used a box blade on my long gravel drive for years and am always happy with the results. The box blade is usually cheaper to boot.

Master, again and still
