shock

Yet one more reason. Too many people. wink grin

As far as putting in infrastructure in rural areas, seems I recall reading that Biden's ultimate goal is to do away with gas/diesel cars/trucks and make the whole country electric. Not gonna happen in my lifetime, I'm sure (at least I hope not) but they sure seem to be trying. shocked

think about how common "brown outs" have become, and "rolling black outs" now.
when was the last power plant built ? look at how many "study's" will need done to build one. then look at the shape of the transmission grid.
don't forget the court cases arising because of "not in my back yard".
at the rate things get done today, it will be close to 75 or 100 years to get even half way there, proclamations or not.
electric over the road trucks ? electric boats for shipping ? how 'bout electric airplanes ?
i'll worry about this stuff in my next life. biggrin

I've got family that is very pro green. One of the them just bought a house and wants to be able to charge two electric vehicles in the garage. Should have seen the look on the guy's face after it was explained to him he only had a 100amp service coming into the house and what was involved cost wise to get what he wanted. I don't think many of these people look past the tips of their nose, and if they do then they'll expect some government program to fund the work for them.

EV not a good fit for my climate, or driving style. Way better option for moderate and warmer temp regions, or for people who don't travel from state to state.

Reading some of the stories over the years from people who bought, and then had to suffer through a cold snowy/icy winter with an electric car are pretty funny. Some of these folks DID NOT think this stuff through at all when they signed on the dotted line, and really ended up regretting it.

Good luck driving home any distance in freezing temps in a snow or ice storm, and getting stuck on the highway for a few hours when they try to clear a pile up with the heater running.

Not practical for people around here 4-5 months out of the year, unless you work and travel quite close to home.

EV's generally are not cheap. Putting infrastructure in areas where folks can't afford an EV? Interesting.

Yeah, there is nothing automatic about owning an EV at this moment in time. They are great for certain applications but the infrastructure we have was designed for gas powered cars, not EV. I love the little Leaf that we have but we use it as a third car. I grab it when running quick errands around town. I would never rely on it as an only vehicle. It was the perfect car for our daughter when she was in high school. She could run back and forth to school all week on a single charge and she never had to worry about checking the oil or filling up with gas. I told my mom several times to buy an EV when she lived in a retirement community. Super low maintenance and very simple to operate make them a great car for older folks. Just take it out to run some errands and then put it back in the garage and plug it in. But they aren't for everyone.

And I'm hearing nothing about the life expectancy of the newer cells, the cost of replacement, and where they will end up.

I know this is about EV's but a little story came to mind about a Prius (happened several times actually).
Back when the Prius first came out (you had to be a Master Tech to even service one back then) I got a wait ticket to check a Prius and the customer complaint was the lack of mileage on the highway. I asked the writer to bring the customer back for a little Q & A session. My first question was what mileage are you getting on the highway. My second question was do you still have the window sticker (which they did). I asked did you read the mileage estimate on the bottom. "Oh yes, and it doesn't come close to what they claim." OK, maybe you ought to pull it out and reread it. This is a commuter car, not a highway car. The mileage estimates are reversed. laugh2
