Is this for a driver or a no expense spared trailer queen? If the latter then only really nice originals will do. Go to a bunch of swap meets, car shows and cruises. When you find someone with a really nice set or even just one offer them double what you consider to be way too much and pray that he pops them off right there and sells them to you. Otherwise you are not looking for best just least horrible.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Not on a trailer queen, but would like them to be pretty clean. Shows will now have to wait till next season in the Northeast unfortunately. Will keep on eye out on line for some, or until supply chain issues ease (hopefully).

I have a repop set i bought a couple of years ago. They weren't on the car long. My car had brushed on the 14 inch road wheels so i bought the brushed ones for the 15 inch rallies. I ended up changing over to polished on the rallies. I'll sell them for $100 bucks plus shipping. PM me if your interested.

Make your own out of a polished set. Not sure on how to do that, or if I have the tools or the skill to do so, but wondered if that was possible.

Get a used wheel without a tire on it. Jack up car and mount wheel and trim ring on car, then run with car in gear. I used some fine sand paper and held it on trim ring while it spun. You can't move your hand back and forth, or you'll get a cross hatch pattern, you have to hold it in place. It may not be perfect, but it will look better than anything after market ring you can buy. I just did and original polished set I brushed for my AAR and that's exactly how I did it. I used 220 grit paper, anything less just isn't enough.

Good to know, how long did you run the sandpaper on it? How much pressure? Did you just use your hand/fingers, or use some sort of block?

Just by hand with much pressure. You'll find that stainless steel will gum up the paper pretty quickly and you'll be flipping it over pretty quickly. It's actually very easy to do, not a big deal. I was a little apprehensive doing the first one, since it was an original trim ring, I quickly got over that after the first one. If you want to chat just give me a call and I can fill you in my experience.
