i have a 74 satellite serbring with a 318 # matching engine, duel exhaust, auto tranny. i picked up a early to mid 70s period correct edelbrock duel plane none egr aluminum intake, before the performer series. ld series i think. will bolt right up, good match as far as fit goes. also i have a edelbrock 600 cmf 4 bbl carb #1405 square bore none egr as well. what kind of results should i expect? and is this a reasonably balanced combination of parts? thanks and input welcomed, ohh ya what type of adapter will i need between the carb and manifold?

If it has the same port size as your 318 as opposed to larger 340/360 ports, it'll be an excellent combo for you. I'm assuming it's a spreadbore intake if so just use the flat adapter that looks like a thin metal base gasket: a gasket, then the metal plate, then another gasket, then the carb.

yes the intake manifold is a spread bore and the port size is the same. do i need the adapter that is a 4 hole pattern or the open square one?

4 hole spacers are supposed to increase the velocity i believe - that's what i have on mine - never tried anything different

i heard some where that the adapter's with the 4 round holes were good for low end-response and the open square adapter's were more for top end? anny help?

the thin flat metal "adapter" is just a thin plate to cover the part of the carb flange on a spreadbore intake that has the oversized contour that matches the corresponding spaced out/larger secondary carb bores of a spread bore carb so that a more compact square flange carb can be used on that spreadbore intake. "Spacers" are square flange & are made of wood or more commonly the black plastic phenolic that come in various heights such as 1" & do come in open or 4 hole versions both of which affect an eng differently but are square flange only & are for square flange carbs/intakes(I dont think I've seen one for a speadbore intake/carb). Spacers are for heat insulation and affecting the mixture column lenght. A stock 4 hole iron intake could benefit with a 4 hole spacer. A single plane intake would most likely(but not always) use an open spacer(of the right thickness)(usually depends on hood clearance) which is a different piece than an open "adapter" which is just a thin flat metal plate.
