Since this has come up in a few threads. What kit /kits would be good for someone who has never used it? Say starting at 100, 150 or 200 shot.

A 100-125HP shot is a good place to start. I prefer the anodized plates vs. powdercoated (holley) and if you can get one that does not have the discharger tubes mounted in epoxy even better. Check Induction Solutions, ZEX, and NX Express.

What are you spraying?

Induction solutions has nice plates . Saturday night special , Holey moly
Also NX billet cross plate is nice .
One thing to remember , it’s always better to have better than you need . In other words buy a plate and solenoids that can go higher than you initially need because most times they can be jetted smaller .
Also always consider a ball valve and nitrous gauge in the car . This gives you ability to turn on nitrous just before a run , and turn it off at the end of a run . This minimizes the pressure on your nitrous solenoid plunger and greatly extends its life . Also safe and make sure you not leaking nitrous into an engine that’s not running .
Induction solutions probably has the best customer service out there .

Good point on the bottle shut off. I have one in the GTS. You might consider the NOS mini progressive if you do not have an ignition with window switch capability. That will also allow you to digitally monitor bottle pressure.

You will want to add a WOT switch to the carb/throttle body also. If you are really serious about consistancy a heater system controlled by a pressure transducer is the hot setup.

What are you spraying?
If I was to spray it's a 446, Ross pistons, EZ heads 13to 1. The shut off is a great idea. Induction Solutions kit looks like you get everything needed. I'm just an ET chaser looking to up the game a bit.

I’m using a 20+ year old NOS Cheater. Served me well. I’m sure there are better options now days.

I bought the Nitrous Express Mainline kit. It's pretty inexpensive and the plate is a one piece billet. It is capable of up to 250 hp. The limitation being the size of the nitrous solenoid.

It was a great kit for a beginner.

That said, the Induction Solutions stuff is what I plan on upgrading to. Probably the Holey Moley kit.

One item you might want to consider is a small board with relays and fuses built in. I bought the Leash Electronics single stage board. It makes wiring and hook up simple and clean.

I started off with a small 100 shot, then graduated to 150, 200 and now 250. The 505 takes the 250 shot like it's nothing.

I built a small board that has a DeWalt dock on it for cordless batteries that power the bottle heater. A pressure switch shuts it off when it gets to 950 psi.

So I understand you need some special "window" switches to operate nitrous on a stick car. Has anyone here used the bottle on a stick car? I have thought about it for high gear only when you didn't hit a shift just right so I don't think you would need any special switches with that.

I've ran two entry level nitrous systems way back when. Both were low hp, but impressive performers.

I ran a typical wet kit on a Tune Port 350 EFI Formula Firebird, auto trans. I ran the 100HP jetting as the car was 100% bone stock. The car went from running 14.70s to 13.50s and picked up 7 or 8 mph.

I also ran a kit on a 5.0 Mustang with a 5 speed trans. I used a special programmable device that allowed you to prevent the kit from activation in first gear via RPM control. Basically the system wouldn't function until after I had shifted to 2nd gear as it armed itself once I had reached my shift RPM once. After that RPM had been reached (say 6,000) the system would function from there on out at WOT. I think you could set a delay after that first RPM point before activation as well. It worked, but I didn't keep the car for that long once installed. The technology is so much better now, so I would assume much better devices are available.

I agree w/ what everyone else has said. Don't buy a little small system for a couple reasons. If you decide to get rid of it later, the small systems are harder to sell. The bigger kits can usually be jetted down small. My kit from Induction solutions has jetting from 150 all the way to 500 hp.
The billet plate kits are the way to go...like the IS holy moly. I should have gotten that b/c they're more durable than the plates w/ epoxied in spray bars. I have the NOS Crosshair plate, flowed by Induction solutions.

Leash electronics has some great wiring boards. Induction Solutions has a lot of good stuff too. Steve at IS is AWESOME at helping his customers. up

I ran an old cheater kit on my 340 Cuda, jetting in those days was way rich on the P jet, 7>8 sizes larger than the N jet which is the complete opposite today, still managed to go 8 10ths faster with the 150 tune and 1.4 secs faster with the 250 shot. Similar with my 440 Cuda, that had a Big Shot kit, went from 10.7 NA to 9.96 with a 175 shot. Both systems had a separate blue pump for just the fuel, not needed really but I wanted to play with fuel pressure like down to 4psi and made sure I had a good supply. Things have come a long way since those days.

I run 2 quarter turn valves and gauges inside of my car for both kits.
