Of course the temperature rise is dictated by many factors including fuel, carb settings, timing, water flow, type of material for engine components, etc., etc. Hope this helps. 5180851-us131.JPG (51 downloads) If it ain't broke fix it anyway!

I would think the hot oil would help the surface areas of the bores to stay warm and not wear as much as a dead cold engine. after a day at the dyno, my best pull of the day was when they did 3 back to back pulls, and got the oil up to around 170, then dumped the water, and cooled the block, did the last run with oil at 165 and water at 120, and it was the strongest pull of the day. Photobucket sucks

In the process of building a chiller to cool it between rounds. Planning on taking the water pump and radiator out of the car. It only makes about 40 degrees during a run and has no fan now. With the chiller, it won't need the radiator. Monte

AndyF I Win A Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 31,027 Oregon	I was talking to a SS engine builder the other day and he said they chill the water before pushing to the line. They try to keep the water temp below 100 degrees on the starting line (that is after the burnout). Have to use a 0 weight oil. I've never tried any tricks like that myself but I do know that if you want to make some extra power on the dyno you just crack the valve and let more cold water into the engine. Sometimes if you look at dyno sheets you'll see that people are running the engines at 120 or 130 degrees. I usually run all of my tests at 180 so I guess I'm giving up about 20 or 30 hp.

5126brl No more top fuel Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,946 Connecticut	Very good info It makes me wonder why my 10.99 run came after a back to back pass @ 200 degrees?waqs running 11.0s all day then came up the return road no one in the lanes so I staged at 200.
