iam not a street rodder by any means but a cool old mopar is a cool old mopar. the junk yard next 2 my work just towed in a 1954 4 door 2 tone newyorker. it has minor rust in the quarters but appears 2 be garage kept. all the trim, interior, engine, trans, etc appears 2 be good. its got a first generation hemi with a single 4 barrel. my question is what should i offer him? he thought he had gold with that engine but i explained it wasnt a 426. i dont wanna see it get crushed so i offered him 500 4 the engine. it turns over and is 100% complete. i gave it some more thought and i have 2 questions. what is the cu of the engine and what is the hole thing worth? thanks 4 your help!!! i got the engine 4 500 but i dont wanna see the car get crushed!!!!also no title!!!

It should be a 331 hemi, and is likely not the long bellhousing block. Which means it should have the good 331 heads that a lot of the racers like for their 392 race motors. Heads are probably the most valuable part of the motor.

Value of the rest of the car is likely as cheap as you can get it. Four door cars even of that era just aren't overly desirable to most people.

54 New Yorker DeLuxe had a 331 hemi, four barrel carb (Chrysler's first), better heads than the earlier hemis, and dual exhaust. Had 235 horsepower which that year was the highest in the American auto industry. Howard Hughes owned one.

Standard 54 New Yorker had a two-barrel, single exhaust version with 195 hp.

54 Windsor had a flathead six with (IIRC) 264 cubes.

Value is not as high as the later finned Chryslers, but they were well-built, solid cars and, with the Hemi, even the 4-doors are somewhat collectible.

Make sure its 54 not a 53, 53's have a ext bellhousing and not sought after by people
