The starter on my RR is on the outs. I thought it was the original but I found a 1980 date cast into it, so I might as well go aftermarket. Need a decent one thats cheap.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

a mini starter for a 93 Dak with a 5.2/5.9 mag engine

works wonders and is 1/16 the weight of the old style

I got mine from th JY 14.00$

had a contac kit put in at a alt/starter shop 65$

79$ was the cheap side, they go for 100$ up and the core can kinda be steep

well worth the $ how every much you get it for IMO

Manifolds right now John...but someday I might go to headers if the price is right. I was trying to keep this car all original (it only has 43000 on it and is #s matching) but little things like the starter keep popping up. Its cheaper to just get the mini starter and keep my eye open for a date coded original at the swaps.

I would just grab a junkyard starter out of a magnum dodge pickup. As far as originality goes, a starter is a normal wear item, like belts, hoses and alternators. Most people are not going to care that it's not original.

You need to be careful of which mini you get and which header , I tried to put a mitsuibishi based mini on a 383 with 1 3/4 tube headers ... not sure of the brand ?? ... and the starter was on the header tube , I had to dent the tube a lot to clear the std gear reduction unit .

Cool. If I purchased headers down the road that won't work with the 440 source mini starter, would I be able to use that starter on one of my 340s?

yep it works on a 340 as well

even better in the sb A-body with headers

I bet it will fit the BB with headers also, unless its big tube race headers

If you are going to get TTI's you need the old style starter, the mini will not fit (383 specific)

From TTi's site...

TTI FOOTNOTE # 10
Chrysler Lightweight Mini Starters - part #'s: R53005984, 56027702AC
Mopar Performance Lightweight Mini Starters - part #'s: P5249644AB, P5007860, P4286522
PowerMaster Adjustable Starter - part # 9523

Not true? Anyone know the differences in the part #'s above?

I need a new starter for my '70 RR 383/727 with TTi headers.

Robb MC Starter

Parts are available for them too on the website.

And he supports Moparts by using ad space on this forum.

Pay attention to how the standard mini starter is kicked out toward the header.

Mancini's starter fit my 383 with 1-3/4" TTIs no prob. Bought the last one they brought to Carlisle a number of years ago and had to hear it from a few Moparts members that wanted one and were there later.

Just had to unbolt the usual adapter that needs removing.

Installed a Denso mini/hi-torque starter on my '70 383/727 Road Runner last night (purchased from Mancini Racing last Friday). Clears my TTi headers fine. As stated above, the plastic wiring lug adapter had to be removed as it was contacting the engine block.

I'll finish putting everything back together, and post after it fires.

Update! Works great! Car fires up instantly.
