The enclosed clip shows two Mopars, a 408 c.i. Dakota and my 451 c.i. ´66 Charger competing in a street car class at an inauguration race in Akureyri Iceland. The new track is an 1/8 mile and owned and operated by The Auto Club of Akureyri of which I have been a member since 1975. We had been working on getting land for this track and building the facilities needed for 43 years. Money and politics slowed our plans, but nevertheless we are proud of having the track built mainly via volunteer work of past and present club members. many of whom did not live to see this day.

Well done Ragnar. Track looks great. How many months of the year are you able to race.

Real enthusiast's here. I can't imagine the work to not only get parts but have a place to run your car. Not to mention the time window for weather has to be pretty short.

I like the shut down area going uphill, that makes the track a lot safer up
I use to race at Palmdale (AKA L.A.C.R.) drag strip in SO CA and at the new Las Vegas track, both have uphill shut downs like yours.
I think the NHRA track in Denver , CO has that also confused

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Thanks for the kind words. We can race from middle of May until middle of September. But although the race season is reasonably long, we have frequent delays due to rain. There are two drag race tracks here in Iceland. The other track is a full quarter-mile track build in 1978. That track was also built by young volunteers and is owned and operated by the Icelandic Drag Racing Club (Kvartmíluklúbburinn in Icelandic).

Thanks Doug

Fortunately, the internet puts us on equal foot with American drag racing regarding access to parts. But the price we pay is diffderent. The rule of thumb is to multiple the dollar in store price in the U.S. with 2, when we estimate the final price of the race stuff we buy. The price rise is due to freight cost and a VAT tax between 11 -24,5%.
The race season is reasonably long; from middle of May until middle of September but we have frequent delays due to rain. There are two drag race tracks here (Icelanders are 330.000 people) so I´d see we are pretty well set.
