aluminum is up supposedly. wheels are .88/lb and clean alum is .88 also. but a LOT of work tearing them apart.

A local scrapper built a melting pot powered by propane with a heavy steel grate sitting above the pot. All sorts of aluminum went on the grate, even complete engines and transmissions along with all kinds of other aluminum items. The steel that was mixed in sunk to the bottom and the molten aluminum above was poured into a multi spoked wagon wheel shaped affair made with angle iron that had the open V part facing up. He had it running full time, eight hours a day, five days a week. The difference in price of uniform size aluminum bars vs aluminum scrap with steel mixed in was worth way more than what he paid the workers that ran his operation.
