I wish I had access to a CNC! Unfortunately I’ve been having to hold the laser tools in the grooves by hand which is very difficult since the magnets want to fight you. Also, I have tried several different belt brands (including gates) without any change. I have the bouchillon Performance chrome pulley and bracket kit that is a 4 groove crank pulley, with two belts feeding the alternator and A/C compressor, and one on the water pump and power steering pump. I know people have warned me about the chrome pulleys being too slick so I have sanded the grooves down and used cleaner to be sure the belts can grab. Also, the belts seem to fit the pulleys very nicely, as they just sit slightly above the grooves. No noise upon startup, only when revved above 2500rpms. Would it be possible that the A/C compressor clutch might be dragging slightly? Without the belts on it spins very freely but as soon as I apply any pressure to the front of the compressor it immediately grabs the pulley (Sanden Unit from Bouchillon Performance as well) thanks again for all of your suggestions thus far!

Using your hands and rough sand paper - RUFF UP the edges of the v belts...

As stated .. chrome is notorious for being tooo slick ...

THAT should initially prove THAT to be the problem.....

If so ... heavy wire brush the inside of the pulleys

A long Straight rod 3/8 or so ? dia. with two beveled sliding bushings will work in place of the laser. Drop the rod into the grooves and look at it's contact to the pulleys on both ends. Slide the beveled end of the bushings to the pulleys and again check alignment.
Also keep in mind a certain amount of misalignment is allowable with V belts. How much depends on a number of variables wink
Silly question? do you still have the belts that were on the car for 30K with no noise?

Call Gates or Dayton

Inspect all of your pulleys. Check the sides to make sure they are not dished. They should be straight. If you can find a sheave gauge, you can also check that all pulleys require the same belts. See pics below.

I can send the OP a sheave gage - I have a bunch of extras.
