Just a sanity check.
The two outside pins on the three pin switch brings GROUND to teh backup lights correct? 12V is at the lights it just gets it's ground when the switch closes.

Thanks, After I posted I found some schematics. Fixed the problem this morning. The 2 pin connector just after the Firewall terminal block (Engine side)was oxidized. Popped the spade lugs out, sanded them and all is good.
