I have some single post and 3 prong neutral safety switches laying around and would like to test them with the ohmmeter. All searches lead to testing switches that are installed. What methods are used to test both types off the trans??

To test the single, check for continuity between the outer post and the inner metal contact.

For the 3-prong, check for continuity between the center outer prong and the inner metal contact; then check for continuity between the two outer prongs. When the inner spring-loaded metal contact is depressed you should lose continuity between the two outer prongs.

Thank you!!!

The single prong reads continuity whether or not the button is pushed in...is that normal? I would think that a switch is a switch.

Yes, both switches will read continuity on the NS pin whether depressed or not.

If your asking about the center conductor, wire, shaft in both types of neutral switches it will have continuity if it is not broken shruggy twocents
