Working on my Demon, about to be ready to drop in engine/trans. Looking for what oil and trans fluid to use. ‘72 Demon all steel, glass hood, stock interior. 360, .30 over 4.125 stroke crank (420 cubes) Eddy heads, Hughes stage 2 porting, super victor gasket matched, 820 Holley. 10.5:1 Comp. Bullet hyd roller cam .249/257 @ .050 .573 lift. 904 trans, rev. valve body, PTC 3800-4000 rpm stall converter. 4.30 gear, 275/60-15 Drag radial.
Is the synthetic worth the $$? Thanks all!
Wally.

I use Valvoline VR1 race oil and whatever brand of Type F trans fluid I can get my hands on. I used to use Mobil One synthetic motor oil, but for a while it got real hard to find...so I switched to the Valvoline. Bearings still look great w/ it, so I have kept using it.

IMO, for your case NO. The transmission fluid choice depends on the chance you could overheat it. A mild footbrake car with medium to low stall is unlikely to overheat the trans/converter.

the car looks really good!
I have used several different types of oil. I usually throw Rotella 15W40 in it when I do drag week where it will see the highest oil temps it ever sees. Its cheap to change and the 15W40 offers a good balance for on track oil pressure and been on the highway for 3 hours oil pressure(in my combo). But when I am not putting a ton of miles on it I run 5W30 to keep my oil pressure out of the moon when I am racing and the oil temp isn't that high.
For trans fluid I use wal mart Type F.

I dont get too excited about oils, but I only bracket race. I switched to the Valvoline Max Life synthetic that Walmart carries last year after I got tired of chasing Type F. $18.00 a gallon, on the shelf anytime I need it and so far is working fine in my glide running mid 5's in the 1/8 mile.
