I need to scratchbuild a trans crossmember for my truck and need to pick up some material. Steel square tubing (1.5" or 2" ) would fit the bill just fine but i could use round (size?) if you think its stronger. I was thinking .125 (1/8") wall would be adaquete. it needs to span 36" between the rails. Does this sound ok? or should i get something else?

to go over a 36" span you will be fine with either 1 1/2 or 2", .125 wall, I have used 1x2" on end and had no problems.
or you could use round as well, I would use 1 3/4 round but you could probably get away with 1 1/2" too Ron...

Would you not be just as far ahead to buy the "universal" kit?

MMMM, because i can build one for about $20-25. Granted mine won't have fancy bends and what not, but it'll by plenty strong.

I bought some 2" square today, im on my way, its about half done now.

Iv'e noticed it for quite sometime, Just never knew how to ask you about it.
most probably think you mean mopar 383 in your 85,
and figure that the avatar is a ram hitting a bowtie. not a bowtie in a ram

hey its your truck and you can do anything you want to it.
I would NEVER put a chevy in a mopar, I don't care how cheap they are, I feel that a mopar deserves a mopar Ron..
