https://www.health.com/condition/heart-disease/black-licorice-bad-for-youSo is black licorice bad for you? When consumed in high amounts, glycyrrhizin, a sweet compound found in licorice root, causes potassium levels to temporarily drop, which in turn may cause abnormal heart rhythms, high blood pressure, swelling, lethargy and, in extreme cases, even heart failure. These issues normally go away once consumption stops.
The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating.Proverbs 18:6

Most black licorice doesn't even have licorice root in it any more.
They use star anise which tastes similar and artificial flavors.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
