Hi, have some questions on the different iterations and their pros/cons.

Currently have the std. RMVB in our 70 Charger, 99% street, no 1st gear braking.
Doing the same to our 71 RR.

What do the different terms mean, i.e. clean neutral, etc. and what are benefits?

Not looking at trans braking or CO2 shifters.

Thanks, Joe

LBA (1st gear braking) helps prevent sprag failure which can lead to explosion.

Clean Neutral is an added shifter position that allows shifting to Neutral without having to pass through 3-2-1. This is mostly for drag racers who don't want to decelerate in gear after a run...takes strain off the rods and makes spark plug reading possible.

Drove a Rmvb with no low gear braking on the street for about 10yrs. Never had a problem. The person who made the VB told me in no uncertain terms to never downshift into low. That the only time the vb is placed in low is when at a complete stop. So thats what I did. Loved that vb, was better thana turbo action and the griner that followed.

Ok

It is supposed to allow the shift to be quicker because the band doesn't have to release. I have coasted mine in low gear many times with no ill effects or sprag problems. Never at high speed but Its not uncommon for me to knock it down into low as I roll up to an intersection. With my 727 it did that for 14-15 years at least for thousands of miles of driving, my 904 not as much but plenty. If I ever move to a low bad apply VB I will probably eat the steering wheel a few times before I change my ways haha.

Same here as I have been driving no L/R band apply reverse manual V/B cars on the street since 1997 and like you Tom I never shift into first until a complete top. You just have to be smart and realize what you have and how to drive it. We did put a L/R band apply V/B in my sons Dat last year from A & A and it works great and car did not slow down any. Ron

There seems to be a misconception about this, many think it's harmful to the sprag but, in reality, it isn't.
