Hello everyone,
I am in the process of disassembling my first 440. It is on the engine stand. I have the crank, rods, pistons, everything else out of it but, I cannot get the cam out. It spins freely when a turn it by hand but, I have pulled and twisted and everything else you can think of and I cannot get it to budge. Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Mike

lifters out? Bolt cam gear on & use it to help you get it started coming forward

Do that or thread some long bolts in and then use that to turn it. Should roll right out.

I want my fair share

Take out the fuel pump and push rod. No way to get the cam out with the pump and push rod still in.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

Thanks for all the responses. Well, the lifters, fuel pump and all that is out of the engine the only thing thers(I thought) was the cam. I did have the cam gear bolted on to use as a handle. However, I completely forgot about the fuel pump push rod. I have kinda quit for tonight but, I bet that is what the problem is. I will give that a try.

Thanks,

Mike

It'll come out with the push rod in, if the pump is out. The rod will slide down far enough.

I just changed the cam in my 440 driver truck, and I didn't take the push rod out.
