I'm not sure, think 39's have headlights kinda like 39 Plymouths

I think its a 38 but, I thought that they had the headlights mounted on the rad shell

Mopar Ron will know

Looks good, only thing I question is doing all that body/paint and leaving the bumper holes if you aren't running the bumper.
Maybe it's out being plated.

I have a neighbor in his mid to late 70's who has a red 39. He let's it sit in the rain sleet hail and snow. Maybe one day he'll sell it or one day I'll ask?

Really interesting Grille Shell. Anyone know if that double body line coming up the bottom and heading up the sides is an original line? Its a really interesting little detail that I can say I have ever seen on another car. Head lights are interesting as well I like them sitting on the fenders, wonder if a Chrysler front clip could be put on a Plymouth.

Here is a 37, the gold one looks to me that they moved the headlights down and without the hood it gets rid of the bling

I agree with you. When you first made your post and I saw and admired this car, I thought there are many aspects about this car that don't look original (which is fine). My brother drove a 37' Chrysler Royal to high school in the early to mid 60's so I remember it pretty well. The first thing I noticed was the grill, grill shell and headlights not being factory as well as the fenders with ridges at their peak. The execution of these new details are well done on this car and would leave most people not thinking anything was different.

The gold car hasnt had any mod done to the front. If you look close at the pick Mopar Ron posted of an original you can barely see the 2 lines on the lower grill area. Its a sweet car but they didnt do much to it.

since it's modified, could they have parts from 1937 AND 1938?

Could have some parts swapped, but the grill shell on a 38 extends up over the top and the hood sits behind the shell, where a 37 the hood extends out over top of the grill shell.

The 38 headlights sit into pods in the fenders where the 37 are attached to the side of the grill shell. Even so, parts could be swapped over, just a lot of metal work. I have seen a lot of metal work on many rods, nothing would supprise me, some guys would do anything if they liked something. Gene

Do these interchange onto any of the Plymouth bodies? I like the look of those fenders and grille, I really like that body line that wraps the fenders then comes into the grille shell.

I don't have an interchange book, but according to my Standard Catalog of Chrysler, 1924-1990, the 38 Plymouth and the 38 Chrysler have different wheel bases across the board. I would suspect maybe the Chrysler fenders may be longer then the Plymouth version of the same car by about 3". Doing a swap may be as easy as pushing the Chrysler nose out a coule inches to make it fit, can't say.

Locating Chrysler fenders may be a difficult thing ti do, a lot more Plymouths were built during any given year then were Chryslers. Gene
