Does anyone know how to remove the drip moulding on a 56 Coronet? Can you remove them and put them back on?

The reason I am asking is b/c my car has a rust hole in the trough and I would like to weld it back up before putting the epoxy back on it.

Does anyone have a better idea for fixing it? I thought about cutting a section out, fixing the rust, then welding the railing back on, but I don't know if that would work or not.

Here are some picts.

Here is my thought on cutting it off and rewelding after rust hole is repaired.

Oh, and if this should go in the restoration forum, let me know or if someone could move it that would be great.

Thanks.

I don't think it's removeable, but I have a possible suggestion? I have a 56 door four that I am parting, and if you can get me some dimensions, I will take the sawzall and buck out some "donor" driprail for you to make your patching easier.

Let me know...

Not removeable. You will have to patch in place.

Here is a thread on how to fix rust, focusing on a roof. It is a LOT of work shown, but it is how to do it so it doesn't come back. It's a great example of restoring, not just patching. Warning, it is a Chevy, but the process should be the same for any mid-50s American car.

That is some pretty amazing and technical metal work shown in that post. I now remember why I thought drip rails are evil.

That drip rail fix is way out of my league!! Maybe if I had more time I could practice and get there. The dodge's driprail is a little different. I will probably just go the cheap and easy route....fiberglass and allmetal. Hate doing it, but it is a 4-door and going to be a driver.
