Hello everybody, I need advice on choosing a hydraulic roller cam. Here is what I have.
1. 70 Challenger, 3.55 gears, limited slip differential, 4 speed HD overdrive (3.06, 1.63, 1.00, .70) Keisler automatic transmission, 512 cu inch stroker motor, fuel injection, 1 3/4 TTI headers, TF 240 aluminum heads, some fiberglass and lots of aluminum parts Still some parts to get. I will choose a lockup converter after buying a camshaft.
2. Usage, street racing, street driving, going to the drag strip every couple of months, some autocross events.
3. It will be driven on the street, 2 maybe 3 times a week.
I have looked at several cams what do you think.
Crane 689531 234-242 @.50 539/558 lift 112 lobe separation Crane 689321 230-236 @50 528/539 lift 112 lobe separation
Lunati 20230712 231-239 @50 535/550 lift 110 lobe separation
Comp Cam 23-711-9 230/236@50 541/537 lift 110 lobe separation Comp Cam 23-712-9 236/242@50 544/541 lift 110 lobe separation
Howard Cams 723445-10 235/241@50 545/545 lift 110 lobe separation
What do you think? Any questions or sugestions? There are A LOT of Super Smart people here on Moparts and I value your opinions.
Thanks,
AL

Thanks,
AL I would probably use the Lunati installed 4 to 6 degrees advance on the intake lobes and I would put a set of two inch headers on that motor also so it can breath and not be choked down in the upper, above 4500 RPM , range I'm thinking that cam and headers will probably make peak torque between 4000 up to 5000 RPM and peak HP between 5500 to 6300 RPM so shifting it at or around 6300 to 6600 RPM should set you back in the seat hard enough to make you either grin or cringe the 1 3/4 inch are two small, make the rest of the exhaust system 3.0 or larger also

Although it’s more aggressive than your choices, I have the Trickflow cam in a 440 in a ramcharger. I’ve never been more impressed from a cam swap. It has a very wide torque curve and pulls hard from 2500-6500. It pulls harder down low even than the 230@050 on 112 cam I pulled out. The specs on it are 243/247 .600/.600 on 108. In a 511 it would be a kitten and make awesome power.

240-250@ .050 on a 113 lca. I am guessing that the wide lca is to make the cam compatible with the O.D. and lockup/3.55 rear gear? If i read it right, the kiesler trans uses a lockup converter? That would make for a tough cam selection? Speculating hear that the trans has a 4th gear od of .70 and a 28 inch tall tire. That would provide 1800 rpm at 60 mph. If you can go deeper rear gears, like 4.10 or 4.30 to bring the O.D. cruise rpm up to 2200 to 2400 it would allow a much faster combo. I agree on the header change. 2 inch tubes with a long collector backed by an expansion chamber and really good flowing mufflers into 3 inch.

It's just the numbers I feel would give him what he's looking for and spread the power out so it's not so over powering down low.
