Howard, Here are some quotes from a previous post. I have no personal expierence but I kept these for when I get ready to do my gear. Quote:

Auburn Gear does not recommend synthetic gear lube in their cone type posi units. I guess it's too slickery. 80w-90 GL5 is all they recommend. Any friction modifier will work at a ratio of 3oz to every 1qt of gear oil. Minumum breakaway torque = 20 lb ft. Less than that it's rebuild time. new unit = 80-100lb ft.

- and on that friction modifier thing, you want just enough in there so the diff doesn't chatter around corners. More than that just defeats the purpose of having a posi unit.
