2 pieces of all-thread with nuts and washers. draw the cap in place. remove all-thread and install your studs. torque to spec. no need to tie in the bearings. if they won't stay in the cap while while you draw the cap in to place, you have other problems to worry about. please, never use a hammer to put main caps on.

I built a press for mine. Don't try to put the motor together when it's cold out if your garage is not heated.

Thanks everyone! Just so we are clear, I was using a rubber mallet to convince these caps into place. BG Racing, boatracer572, rebel, thanks for the input. 540dust, I was afraid to say I ended up using fishing line to hold the bearing while knocking the cap in.Thanks. Dan and Jim, and all you smart guys, why don't you tell us rookies this stuff before we beat our heads against the wall? Thanks for the input, and the good ideas.

Stick the bearing in just before it goes onto the crank.......... I think
I'm thinking that drawing the bearing down is the way to go? The all thread/press method.Thanks.

I just backed my studs out enough to get them started then seated the studs and went the rest of the way home
I did the same thing. But I made my own tool to remove them as well.
