I have this 96 Dakota 4x4. The front axle retied itself. I have in my stash a 92 or a 93 Dakota "cad" front axle with the same gear. Will the cad axle work as a replacement for a non-cad 96?
If it will work, do I lock the cad in?
I don't know how often I'll use the 4x4 in the 96, but I would like it to work. Gene

OK, so I have the axle bolted in. It has a 318 with the OD auto trans. Motor not running, front tires off the ground, it sure feels like its binding real bad at both extremes of turning the wheels. When you reach the last 1/4 turn of the steering wheel (in either direction), the tires want to rotate in opposite directions. With the tires on the ground and weight there, you almost can't turn it. I suspect the power steering would help, but is this pretty normal with a cad axle or is there a problem I need to look for? Gene
