I have an opportunity to pick up a cheap 46RH core out of a 95 1500 for my Cuda. I've read several awesome write-ups about the swap, but all had to do with older non lockup units. Just wanted to check and see if anything would be physically different with the swap, mainly converter spacing, that should be mentally noted prior, or if they were the same. I know you have to address the OD and lockup functions, but just wanted to make sure it was a solution and not more problems. Anything else noteworthy?

External dimensions are all the same but the converters don't interchange. Input shaft and reaction supports are different as well as the valvebody.

That's what I figured. I'm assuming the lockup units from Cope or Hughes would be a straight forward install just as any other 727 based trans, you just have the lockup feature available? I need to get on the horn with either of those companies Monday but it's on my mind now and figured I'd ask here first

That's a pretty decent rpm drop with lockup. Who's converter did you use? I only see a handful of companies advertise off the shelf units but I'm wondering if any of the bigger name companies can make one.

Recently completed a resto on my 71 Cuda which included installation of a 46RH with automatic OD and lockup. Did all the work myself so I know all the details. Willing to share my experiences if you need it.

Awesome. For the sake of others I'll ask here instead of PM, who did you go with for the converter, and what are you using for the kickdown? Standard linkage from a donor or ? Much appreciated!

Since mine is also a 71, were the floor mods fairly minimal and straight forward?

I'm researching for my '68 RR. I've already bought a '95 A518 from a Ram 1500, I'm going to rebuild. I'm planning just the 11" high stall stock converter, will be plenty for my application and a few 618 parts inside. What I'm trying to figure out is bolting to the 383. Did you use an adapter kit or a JW Ultra Bell? Or is there another option?

Thanks,
DC

For those of us who already have an expensive non lock-up converter, is it possible to replace certain transmission parts to convert it to a non lock-up?

The obvious stuff are things like the Input shaft and the valve body...but other than that, are there any other "guts" that need to be sourced?

Thanks!

Find yourself a good complete pump or go with just the reaction shaft support.

Does the Holley EFI not have any mappable auxiliary outputs for generic transmission control? If not, that seems like a real swing and a miss for Holley in terms of retrofit efi for resto-mod vehicles.

I don't think the Sniper line has that capability. It's an entry level efi. The Super Sniper will have those configurable inputs, I think. Otherwise, it's on to the more expensive units.

74 Challenger, bought it new. In 1978 I replaced the original 318 with a 446 and 727. Mild cam, Jardine headers, and Holley Sniper EFI.
New engine! 511" RB, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, Eagle rotating assy, Comp hyd roller cam, Doug's 2" headers.
